Our trusts and estates services include preparing estate plan documents, advising trustees, executors, and other fiduciaries, handling probate proceedings, preparing fiduciary, gift, and estate tax returns, and establishing and administering guardianships and conservatorships. Our attorneys work closely with individuals and families, developing long-term relationships to help ensure continuity from generation to generation.

If a legal or tax controversy arises, we help our clients resolve disputes and audits through negotiated settlements, mediation, arbitration, and, if necessary, litigation.

Our group consists of twenty-four attorneys, several of whom are certified by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization as specialists in tax law and/or estate and trust law. Two attorneys are Fellows of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), and members of the group have served as adjunct professors at universities throughout the United States, and have lectured extensively on estate planning, taxation, and related topics.

Attorneys from other practice areas, including corporate and employee benefits law, often assist the trusts and estates attorneys when designing a comprehensive program to meet specific business objectives. Our lawyers also work closely with accountants, insurance professionals, and trust officers to develop coordinated estate and business plans.

We offer significant experience in related areas, including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, real estate development, employment law, and executive compensation and employee benefits plans. The charitable organizations practice is national in scope and includes providing counsel to and establishing charitable foundations and other tax-exempt entities and trusts.

Estate planning services include designing wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and related documents. We utilize gift and estate tax reduction strategies, develop plans for the effective use of life insurance, integrate qualified plans and retirement accounts with the estate plan, and prepare prenuptial and other marital or property agreements. We also provide legal and tax advice on the use of family limited partnerships and LLCs, grantor trusts (including GRATs and QPRTs), tax-free installment sales and exchanges, aircraft trusts, charitable remainder and lead trusts, and other charitable giving and tax planning techniques.

Our attorneys counsel business owners on estate planning and succession issues, and have significant experience in drafting buy-sell agreements, structuring capital, profits, and voting interests, devising strategies for transferring interests to children and grandchildren, and qualifying the owner’s estate for deferred payment of estate tax.

Private client and wealth preservation services include family office formation, private trust company arrangements, and forming business entities for family governance and wealth management purposes. We offer multidisciplinary resources and have extensive experience providing customized and creative solutions for sensitive and pressing intra-family concerns and business needs. Our approach is multidimensional, addressing the full ambit of personal, business, tax, civic, and charitable areas.

Our clients have local, national, and international interests. They include entrepreneurs, executives, sports figures, artists, families, family offices, trust companies, fiduciaries, public and private charities, and family-controlled companies and other closely-held businesses.
