Trusts & Estates

We have one of the largest trusts and estates practices in the Southwest. Our attorneys represent individuals, business owners, nonprofit organizations, charitable foundations, and trust companies in a range of estate planning, trust, estate, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, litigation, and taxation matters.

Our trusts and estates legal services include preparing estate plan documents, advising trustees, executors, and other fiduciaries, handling probate proceedings, preparing fiduciary, gift, and estate tax returns, and establishing and administering guardianships and conservatorships. Our estate attorneys work closely with individuals and families, developing long-term relationships to help ensure continuity from generation to generation.

Good Counsel

What We Do

If a legal or tax controversy arises, our tax attorneys help our clients resolve disputes and audits through negotiated settlements, mediation, arbitration, and, if necessary, litigation.

Our group consists of 24 estate, trust and tax attorneys, several of whom are certified by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization as specialists in tax law and/or estate and trust law. Two estate attorneys are Fellows of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), and members of the group have served as adjunct professors at universities throughout the United States, and have lectured extensively on estate planning law, tax law, and related topics.

Attorneys from other practice areas, including corporate and employee benefits law, often assist the trusts and estates attorneys when designing a comprehensive program to meet specific business objectives. Our wealth management attorneys also work closely with accountants, insurance professionals, and trust officers to develop coordinated estate and business plans.

We also offer significant experience in related areas, including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, real estate development, employment law, and executive compensation and employee benefits plans. The nonprofit law practice is national in scope and includes providing counsel to and establishing charitable foundations and other tax-exempt entities and trusts.

Estate Planning Law

Members of the practice group counsel business owners on estate planning issues and have significant experience in drafting buy-sell agreements, devising strategies for transferring interests in the business to children and grandchildren, and structuring the business so that the owner's estate will qualify for the deferred payment of estate tax. Attorneys from other practice areas, including corporate and employee benefits law, often assist the estate planning attorneys when designing a comprehensive program to meet specific business objectives.
