Sherry Janssen Downer ASSOCIATE
Ms. Downer practices in the areas of employment and labor law, commercial and business litigation, professional liability, and Mining Law and Public Lands. Ms. Downer represents companies in employment litigation before courts and administrative agencies, commercial disputes, contract and tort claims. She advises companies on a variety of human resources issues, drafts policies, conducts employee and management level training, and regularly writes and speaks about a variety of employment and human resource matters. Ms. Downer is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, teaching regarding employment topics including employment discrimination, the National Labor Relations Act, concerted activity, social media, drug and alcohol testing and Arizona’s Medical Marijuana Act. Ms. Downer's commercial litigation practice includes litigating a variety of business disputes, and contract and tort claims on behalf of corporate clients. Ms. Downer represents clients in complex construction and development litigation and has been involved with a number of construction-related organizations since 2007. She has successfully defended and obtained dismissals for professionals, including attorneys, doctors, and architects against professional malpractice claims. Ms. Downer’s practice includes working in the mining industry, defending mining companies in arbitration and litigation, conducting supervisor training, and investigating and defending harassment, discrimination, whistleblower, wrongful termination, and Federal Mine Safety and Health Act (MSHA) claims.
Ms. Downer is an active member of the Tucson community. She currently serves on the Tucson Metro Chamber’s Public Policy Committee and volunteers her time with the Chamber’s Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) project to help ensure that local companies stay and grow in Tucson. Ms. Downer has been a member of the Primavera Cooks! Committee since 2009, helping to organize and support a series of dinner events that raise money for the Primavera Foundation. Ms. Downer volunteered her time as a member of Catholic Community Services’ Board and Human Resources Committee for a number of years, and is a past member of the Junior League of Tucson. [LESS]
